The Idea
The founder of Kilt Beard Company, Joseph MacDonald in a stubbled ginger beard at the time was rummaging through his collection of beard products one day after being laid off from his corporate job. He thought to himself after displaying many of the products across the bathroom counter “why are there many half-full products?” Then it dawned on him with his analytical mind that he didn’t know what was in his products. He didn’t feel any connection to them.
After researching many of the ingredients, which were more than 50% non-beneficial to the health of the skin and beard he thought there had to be a better product.
Quality
It’s one thing to say that a product is natural, but to be all-natural & organic? This is a motto, if you will, that Joseph researched and pondered for a month. Then, one day, he created his first beard oil, Beard Elixir. Since one of the most significant pain points of a bearded man is beard itch and beardruff, it would be Beard Elixir’s purpose with a refreshing grapefruit, lavender, and peppermint scent to eliminate beard itch and beardruff and provide rejuvenation.
Then Joseph walked up to his neighbor’s door with two samples in hand and knocked. Joseph handed Dakota- Beard Elixir and said, “try this for the next few days and let me know if it does anything for you.” Many days later, Joseph returned to Dakota. Dakota said, “I threw out all my other products; Beard Elixir is all I need.”
Heritage
Heritage is the weight of generations that have come before. We believe one way to express an individual’s heritage is through their man mane. Joseph wanted to ensure a name that was of heritage and recognizable to everyone. A kilt is a symbol of Scotland, a US military-issued uniform, and is recognized worldwide. Anyone can recognize a kilt, and tartan patterns are etched in many of our products relating to the Donald clan. Tartan patterns in modern times can be an expression to nature and other specifics. So, the Kilt Beard Company was born. A company that expresses American/ Scottish heritage with a salute to the armed forces.
